In Ogale-Eleme, Port Harcourt, siblings Ada and Kaka Wakanma grew up facing more challenges than most. Born with cerebral palsy, they struggled with speech and learning difficulties, making everyday tasks a challenge. Their father passed away when they were very young, leaving their mother to care for them and their five siblings on a limited income. Meeting even their most basic needs was difficult, and specialized care for Ada and Kaka seemed far out of reach.

Support came when the Liliane Foundation, through The Leprosy Mission Nigeria, intervened. Ada and Kaka received physiotherapy and vocational training, helping them build independence. Ada developed a strong interest in hairdressing, while Kaka, despite ongoing challenges, found purpose in livestock farming. These opportunities not only gave them skills but also restored their confidence.

A critical part of their journey has been the Daughters of Charity, who have worked tirelessly to ensure Ada and Kaka are included in their community. Through awareness campaigns in schools, churches, and villages, they have helped shift perceptions around disability, creating a more accepting environment. Caregivers and teachers have also been trained to provide better support, ensuring the siblings get the care they deserve.

Today, Ada and Kaka attend the Child Special School in Port Harcourt, where they are thriving. Ada has formed meaningful friendships, and Kaka, having achieved his goal of completing school and learning a skill, now dreams of building a family.Their journey is one of perseverance and quiet strength. Though life has not been easy, Ada and Kaka have continued to push forward. Their story is a testament to what is possible when opportunity meets determination, and a reminder of why inclusion matters.
