Disability & Inclusion

At The Leprosy Mission Nigeria, we believe that every person with a disability deserves equal opportunities. Through strong partnerships with over 30 organizations in Nigeria and support from donors worldwide, we provide education, physiotherapy, medical care, and vocational training to persons with disabilities and their caregivers, ensuring sustainable livelihoods. Recognizing the importance of mental health, we also offer dedicated support services to improve emotional well-being and resilience.

Projects

Inclusion First Project

Funded by the Liliane Foundation, the Inclusion First project is designed to improve access to inclusive healthcare, education, employment, and social empowerment for children and young persons with disabilities. Many of these individuals—particularly children, women, and young people—face discrimination, limited healthcare access, and exclusion from education and employment. Additionally, Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) services, often provided by private practitioners, remain out of reach for most families due to high costs.

We are actively working to remove these barriers in 12 states including Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Ebonyi, Nasarawa, Oyo, Ondo, Lagos, Imo, Plateau, Rivers, and FCT by:

  • Advocating for inclusive education and healthcare
  • Providing vocational and economic empowerment opportunities
  • Fostering social inclusion and community support

TLM Orthopedic Project

TLM Nigeria prioritizes disability prevention by focusing on wound care and physiotherapy and the provision of assistive technologies, including custom-made footwear, protective shoes, and prosthetic and orthotic devices, to individuals affected by leprosy and disabilities.

These interventions aimed to restore physical function, enhance mobility, and improve the overall quality of life for those with leprosy-related disabilities.
